MEASURING YOUR SUN HEATING SYSTEM

To obtain the greatest performance of the sun heaters, besides the real demand of hot water, the measurement must consider the place of the installation.
A badly measured system will inevitably make the auxiliary group of heating operate above the predicted way, with a consequent increase in the operational cost. To determine the number of collectors that will form the system, these are the procedures to be followed:

1. Calculate the daily consumption of hot water demanded from the system (liters/day), referring to the table bellow:

CONSUMPTION OF HOT WATER FOR RESIDENCES
(Litros / persona / dia)

Shower :
Wash basin:

2. Choose a reservoir with the capacity (in liters) equal or immediate above what is indicated.

3. Calculate the expression:

K1 = correcting factor to different climates
Cold places : 1,33
Warm places: 1, 00
Hot places (clean sky): 0, 80
K2 = correcting factor for orientation diverging from the real north (east or west)
Up to 15º: 1, 00
From 15º to 20º: 1, 05
From 20º to 25º: 1, 10
Above 25º: special support

  4. With the value of the total area (A) for the collector, choose the necessary quantity of collectors.
